DNSBOX: Racing ahead
The organizers of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone racetrack urgently needed to upgrade the DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) service for their high-speed public Wi-Fi network to guarantee availability for half a million visitors.
After upgrading to a 100G internet link, the circuit's existing DHCP solution became a bottleneck and could not handle the large numbers of DHCP leases needed to connect racegoers' devices to the network.
Leading event connectivity provider MyComms contacted ApplianSys looking for a high performance, high availability DHCP solution that they could quickly deploy.
MyComms knew that DNSBOX has been designed with a streamlined interface that allows network managers to get up and running quickly. Because DHCP configuration from any standard server can be easily imported to DNSBOX, ApplianSys' engineers were able to configure many of MyComms' network settings before the appliances were even on-site.
This, coupled with ApplianSys' outstanding support, made it possible for a pair of DNSBOXes to be ordered, custom built and deployed on Silverstone's network – just four days after MyComms first contacted the sales team.
DNSBOX is able to handle thousands of leases per second, providing the high performance Silverstone needed to serve masses of Formula 1 fans a day after deployment. And by deploying their DNSBOXes in Active/Active failover mode, Silverstone were reassured they had an always-on DHCP service for guaranteed network uptime.
