DNSBOX: Court-Ordered Efficiency for DHCP Management
For its DHCP service, the US Federal Probation Office of New Jersey had relied on Windows servers and some local routers to provision its 3 courthouses and 1 satellite office, spread across the state. But with his Windows servers end-of-life, Systems Manager Ed Buonocore decided to upgrade to cloud-based networking. And that left him with a problem on what to do for DHCP.
For Ed, it didn't make sense to retain an on-site Windows Server -and its license cost - just for DHCP.
He was also tired of his existing setup not being redundant. Every time there was an issue with the internet, he was forced to travel 60-90 minutes to reset the DHCP service so that local staff could access the network.
After finding and evaluating DNSBOX's DHCP server option, he found it to be the perfect fit in terms of an on-site dedicated DHCP solution with straightforward redundancy. He has initially deployed 2 DNSBOXes, configured as a failover pair, at the main office:
"The interface is great, it's simple to setup the appliances and works as advertised. It's an amazing DHCP server, with fully functioning failover with
reporting that gives you all the information you need. I've always wanted to get rid of my Windows server, DNSBOX has helped me to achieve that."
Ed Buonocore, Systems Manager
Ed plans to purchase a further 3 pairs of DNSBOXes to replace the DHCP services and provide the failover needed at his other sites.
