Eton College chooses DNSBOX for reliable, on-site DHCP
Eton College, England's most famous school, had migrated its network infrastructure to cloud-based Microsoft Azure, aiming to reduce its local server footprint. However, the school still needed to keep its DHCP service on-site, but did not want the expense of maintaining a full Windows Server solely for DHCP.
With a complex mix of bring-your-own-device networks and IoT technologies like smart TVs in the classroom, and a school campus spread across the town of Eton, the network team needed to find a solution that could easily manage their network and meet their stringent safeguarding and security requirements.
Eton's network team initially trialled installing ISC KEA on a local server but found the open-source solution too demanding to maintain. They required a dedicated appliance that:
- Was on-site with high availability DHCP to ensure an 'always on' service for students
- Integrated KEA's robust capabilities with an easy-to-use management interface
DNSBOX was the solution, offering the flexibility of an embedded ISC KEA engine with an intuitive GUI and server management application software. And by deploying two DNSBOX210s in a high-availability pair, Eton College has guaranteed service uptime for its students.
