Ellison Technologies Ensures Reliable On-Site DHCP with DNSBOX
Ellison Technologies, one of the largest CNC machine tool distributors in the U.S., was migrating their core IT services to the cloud. However, this transition meant losing the existing Windows-based DHCP functionality at each of its 15 manufacturing plants, which created an urgent need for an on-site DHCP solution.
With no local IT support at many locations, Ellison faced significant downtime whenever domain controllers went offline — sometimes waiting over two hours for a fix. Moving DHCP off-site would have made it unavailable during these outages, further increasing the risk of disruptions to critical business operations.
To maintain reliable, on-site DHCP across a diverse network of offices and manufacturing plants, Ellison Technologies evaluated DNSBOX. Senior Network Administrator Alex Pour found its straightforward UI and ease of deployment to be an ideal fit for their decentralized IT model.
Ellison deployed dedicated DNSBOX appliances at each site, ensuring DHCP would continue running even if domain controllers went offline. This removed a major point of failure and kept local networks operational at all times. While most sites required only a standalone DNSBOX, key locations with higher availability needs deployed failover pairs, adding an extra layer of protection against downtime.
Unlike Windows-based DHCP, which required frequent maintenance and updates, DNSBOX provides a dedicated, appliance-based solution that is easy to manage remotely. IT staff can configure and monitor DHCP services without on-site intervention, keeping management simple while ensuring stability across all locations.
Now, with DNSBOX deployed nationwide, Ellison Technologies has a reliable, high-availability DHCP solution that keeps its manufacturing and office networks running smoothly—without the complexity or risk of relying solely on cloud-based services.
