DNSBOX for Investment Firms: Reliable, Independent DHCP & DNS Across Multiple Sites
Cutler Investment Group needed a robust, fully redundant DHCP and DNS solution to replace its existing Microsoft Windows Server setup. With operations spanning four locations—in Alaska, Washington, Oregon, and California—the firm required a solution that allowed each site to function independently while maintaining seamless synchronization across the network.
Previously, all traffic was routed through Jacksonville, OR, meaning if the site went down, the entire network lost internet access. To resolve this, Cutler Investment Group required DNS and DHCP appliances at each location, ensuring local network resilience even if VPN connectivity between sites was disrupted.
The firm selected ApplianSys' DNSBOX, deploying:
- Four DNSBOX200 appliances, licenced for DHCP and recursive DNS, capable of handling IP address allocation and dynamically updating DNS records
- One DNSBOX300 master appliance, to synchronize Dynamic DNS (DDNS) updates across all four sites and centrally manage DNS
With DNSBOX, Cutler Investment Group now has:
- Fully independent DHCP and DNS at each site, eliminating reliance on a single location for network services.
- Support for DHCP relay, enabling local appliances to prioritize local DHCP responses while syncing changes once connectivity is restored.
- Centralised visibility and granular control, allowing all four sites to stay in sync while maintaining control over DNS records
By deploying DNSBOX, Cutler Investment Group has replaced its Microsoft DHCP/DNS setup with a fully independent, appliance-based solution that ensures stability and resilience across all locations.
